Rep Moore Omokunde- “I’m a NO on this budget”

MADISON— Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly and Senate convened for legislative floor session to pass the 2025-27 Executive Budget. The budget passed both houses and now heads to Governor Tony Evers’s desk.

State Representative Supreme Moore Omokunde (D-Milwaukee) had this to say on an amendment offered by Democrats to extend Medicaid eligibility for postpartum women to 12 months: “This amendment gives my colleagues on the other side of the aisle the opportunity to support a bipartisan measure that upholds family values. In fact, 28 of you have already co-sponsored Assembly Bill 97, which is the same as our amendment here.”

The amendment failed on a party line vote.

On full passage of the budget: Malcolm X once famously said: ‘You can’t stick a knife in my back 9 inches, pull it out 6 and call that progress.’ This is exactly what you’re doing when you try to distract folks with big numbers like $600 million investment at 42%, while failing to mention that these are far less than the investments we need. This budget fails to meet minimum standards for investments in education, health care, child care, and effective criminal justice reform. I’m a NO vote on this budget.”

Representative Moore Omokunde represents the 17th Assembly District on the North and Northwest sides of Milwaukee.
