Rep. Sequanna Taylor’s Statement on the Wisconsin Supreme Court Decision on 1849 Abortion Ban
Milwaukee, Wis – Today, in a 4-3 decision, the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down the state’s 1849 abortion ban. Representative Taylor (D-Milwaukee) issued the following statement:
“Today’s ruling is a step forward for reproductive freedom in Wisconsin—but the fight is far from over. This decision reflects the power of organizers, advocates, and everyday people who refused to stay silent. Still, legal clarity is not the same as full protection. Abortion access remains fragile until we enshrine it into law and our state Constitution.
“Patients don’t come to Planned Parenthood to make a political statement—they come for essential, high-quality care. We must pass the Abortion Rights Restoration Act to ensure that people across our state can access that care safely, without fear or delay. I remain committed to protecting the rights, privacy, and bodily autonomy of all Wisconsinites.”NOTE: This press release was submitted to Urban Milwaukee and was not written by an Urban Milwaukee writer.
