By - May 20th, 2025 10:56 am

The Public Safety and Health Committee during its next regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, May 22 will hear a communication file relating to the incident that took place throughout the City Hall complex on Thursday, May 15. The incident included reports of shots fired at the Zeidler Municipal Building as well as a shelter in place directive throughout the City Hall complex.

Common Council President José G. Pérez, who is sponsoring the file, believes this situation and how it was handled deserve a thorough and transparent discussion. “In the aftermath of the incident from last week, it is clear there are areas that must be improved upon for the safety and wellbeing of all our employees and visitors,” he said. “This communication file will give us a forum to discuss openly what happened, what the response was, where errors might have occurred, and how we can improve upon things to do better in the future. Given the nature of these incidents, we should expect nothing but the best in response and communication. People’s lives may depend on it.”

The Public Safety and Health Committee meeting will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 22 in room 301-B at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St. The meeting will also be streamed live on the City Channel (channel 25 on Spectrum Cable and channel 99 on AT&T U-Verse in the City of Milwaukee) and via streaming video on the city website at city.milwaukee.gov/Channel25.
