State Rep. Mayadev Slams Republican Budget Gutting: “Wisconsin Mothers and Children Deserve Better”
MADISON, WI — Today, State Representative Renuka Mayadev (D – Madison) issued the following statement after Republican members of the Joint Finance Committee voted to strip more than 600 items from Governor Tony Evers’ 2025-27 biennial budget, including critical measures to support working families, protect our environment, and expand access to healthcare:
“Wisconsin families are being abandoned by legislative Republicans. Today’s actions are not just political. They are personal. Republicans voted to gut funding for child care, cut support for out-of-school programs, and increase out-of-pocket costs for families.
“Republicans further eliminated solutions to address PFAS contamination and the issue of lead poisoning in homes, schools, and communities across the state, when we know that no level of lead exposure is considered safe for children. I am appalled that the health and well-being of our youngest Wisconsinites is of no concern to my Republican colleagues.”
“As legislators, we were elected to solve problems for our constituents. If improving the health and well-being of mothers and children aren’t on the agenda, what is?”
