By - May 6th, 2025 04:18 pm

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Governor Evers has approved a $13.3 million resurfacing project along I-43, from the Oak Leaf Trail Bridge to Bender Road in Milwaukee County. This segment is the final piece of roadway to be improved in the I-43 corridor spanning north of downtown Milwaukee to Grafton. Zignego is the prime contractor for the project. Construction is scheduled to begin May 12, with completion in fall 2025.

Improvements include:

  • Resurfacing approximately a mile and a half of roadway
  • Concrete spot repairs on all ramps within the Silver Spring Drive interchange
  • Minor signal repair at the I-43 northbound exit ramp to Port Washington Road
  • Drainage improvements
  • Structure maintenance and improvements on retaining walls and noise walls along I-43

What to expect:

Long-term single lane closures along I-43 will begin on Monday evening, May 12.

  • I-43 northbound will be reduced from three (3) lanes to two (2) lanes from just north of Capitol Drive to Bender Road
  • I-43 southbound will be reduced from three (3) lanes to two (2) lanes from Good Hope Road to the Oak Leaf Trail Bridge over I-43
  • Additional overnight lane closures

Long-term lane closures are expected through summer 2025. Intermittent closures of local roads and ramps will be required throughout the project.

All work is weather-dependent and subject to change. For more information, visit the project website at: https://projects.511wi.gov/43oakleaf/
