Daniel Bauman Calls for Milwaukee to Defend Itself Against State and Federal Overreach
MILWAUKEE – With renewed threats to Milwaukee under the Trump administration, Common Council candidate Daniel Bauman is calling for the city to stand up for itself—protecting federal funding, defending marginalized communities, and pushing back against state and federal overreach.
Bauman highlighted several key priorities Milwaukee must take on to protect its future:
Protecting Federal Funding
- Continue to publicly advocate for Milwaukee’s fair share of our tax dollars coming back to Milwaukee to support infrastructure, public safety, housing, and essential services.
- Ensure federal dollars strengthen public services—expanding affordable housing, improving transit, and maintaining critical infrastructure, instead of being funneled into privatization schemes.
Defending Marginalized Communities
- Strengthen protections for all residents, including LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and communities of color.
- Maintain and reinforce Milwaukee’s policies to prevent local law enforcement from participating in unjust crackdowns on law-abiding immigrants.
- Work with advocacy groups to connect vulnerable residents with legal and community resources.
Protecting Local Control
- Push back against state and federal interference that limits Milwaukee’s ability to govern itself.
- Advocate for policies that prioritize the needs of Milwaukee residents over political agendas from Madison or Washington.
- Ensure Milwaukee acts like a real city—one that invests in its people, protects its resources and city employees, and refuses to be dictated to by those who don’t have its best interests at heart.
Bauman stressed that Milwaukee cannot allow the state or federal government to undermine its funding, threaten its residents, or dictate how the city operates. “This is about defending what cities are supposed to stand for,” Bauman added. “We need to stand up for each other, for our neighbors, and for the future of Milwaukee—and that work starts right here in District 3.”
