MILWAUKEE – On Thursday, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved File No. 25-119, legislation creating the City-County Advisory Board on Climate and Economic Equity to guide decision-making efforts, policies, and strategies in pursuing the City and County’s shared climate goals in the future.

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and Milwaukee County Board Supervisor Anne O’Connor are praising this action in advancing the community’s environmental sustainability, clean energy, and energy efficiency efforts.

“The climate crisis is a real, pressing threat to our environment, our economy, our health, and our quality of life. Collaboration and partnership will be key in combatting climate change and promoting environmental sustainability throughout Milwaukee County,” said County Executive Crowley. “The newly-created City-County Advisory Board on Climate and Economic Equity will help local leaders make informed decisions to guide our shared efforts in building a climate-resilient and environmentally responsible future that delivers economic prosperity for working families. I’m excited to get to work in fostering a cleaner, healthier, and stronger Milwaukee County for all.”

“The creation of the City-County Advisory Board on Climate and Economic Equity marks an important step forward in our commitment to sustainability, economic opportunity, and environmental justice,” said Supervisor O’Connor. “By continuing the collaborative work of the Task Force, we are ensuring that Milwaukee County remains on track to meet its climate goals while uplifting communities through green jobs and equitable solutions. I look forward to working with our partners to build a healthier, more resilient future for us all.”

In June 2023, the former City-County Task Force on Climate and Economic Equity released its final Climate and Equity Plan, thus fulfilling its mission. While the task force has been dissolved, implementation of the Climate and Equity Plan will now require continued assistance, diligence, and expertise. The newly-created City-County Advisory Board on Climate and Economic Equity will be charged with implementation of the Climate and Equity Plan. The advisory board will be comprised of public sector leaders, local climate and labor advocates, and community members.

The formation of the City-County Advisory Board on Climate and Economic Equity comes as Milwaukee County will soon unveil its Milwaukee County Climate Action 2050 Plan with a goal to achieve net zero carbon emissions, while advancing equity, justice, and resilience throughout the community. This plan will align the County’s climate initiatives with the vision to make Milwaukee County the healthiest community in Wisconsin by achieving racial equity. The full plan will be unveiled later in 2025. More information is available HERE.
