MBSD Superintendent Search Update

MILWAUKEE, WI – January 29th, 2025 – After an extensive and extended search, resulting in a strong slate of candidates to consider, the Milwaukee School Board held interviews this week for the position of Superintendent of Schools.

The Board anticipates being able to name finalists on Friday, January 31st, 2025. A special meeting of the Board will take place at 4:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Central Office building at 5225 W. Vliet Street. At this meeting, the Board will retire to closed session and will return to open session after a brief deliberation to take action on naming the finalists.

A press conference will be held directly after the meeting of the Board, and bios for the named finalists will be available for interested media and community members.

The selected finalists will be invited to spend two days in the District, on February 6th and 7th, 2025, participating in interviews, visiting schools and meeting with stakeholders.

There will be two opportunities on February 6th for community members to hear from and provide feedback on the Superintendent Finalists Candidates.

Community stakeholder meetings with the finalists will be held at MPS Central Office – 5225 West Vliet Street in the Auditorium on Thursday, February 6th. The first session will run from 1:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. and the second session will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. The schedule will go as follows:

Community Forums with the Finalists

February 6th, 1:00 – 3:45 pm and 5:30 – 8:15 pm, Central Services Auditorium

1:00 – 1:45 – Candidate 1

2:00 – 2:45 – Candidate 2

3:00 – 3:45 – Candidate 3

Break

5:30 – 6:15 – Candidate 1

6:30 – 7:15 – Candidate 2

7:30 – 8:15 – Candidate 3

Candidates will be introduced by the Board Clerk, Dr. Tina Owen-Moore.

Finalists will give a brief introduction and share their vision and goals for the district. Leaders from HYA, the superintendent search firm, will moderate questions from the community.

Following each presentation, community members will be able to provide feedback on the candidate for the Board’s consideration using a QR code that will be provided.

The Board aims to announce Milwaukee’s next Superintendent in late February or early March.

Anticipated Search Timeline

An abbreviated timeline is as follows:

January 27th and 28th, 2025 – First Round Interviews

January 29th, 2025 – Board Deliberations

January 31st, 2025 – Continued Deliberations and Finalists Announced

February 6th and 7th, 2025 – Finalists Day in the District

TBD 2025 – Board decision following formal background checks and contract discussions

July 1, 2025 – Superintendent contract formally begins
