Rep. DeSmidt Rejects Voter Suppression, Focuses on Real Solutions for Wisconsin
MADISON, WI – Today, Rep. Ben DeSmidt cast his first vote as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. He stood firmly against efforts by the majority party to disenfranchise marginalized groups from participating in our elections.
Representative Ben DeSmidt (D-Kenosha) had the following statement:
“Rather than focusing on the real issues that matter to our constituents, Republicans passed a proposal today that disproportionately impacts those already facing systemic barriers to voting. It’s unfortunate many families in Wisconsin are struggling and this is what the majority party decided was important. I hope we get back to reality soon and start focusing on funding our schools, improving mental health services, and building safer communities.”“Although partisan politics was on full display today, it was refreshing to see the Governor announce the creation of the Wisconsin Office of Violence Prevention. Having a dedicated state office to work with law enforcement on a daily basis is a massive step forward in reducing gun violence in Wisconsin. I’m thankful to have a Governor who makes progress on the issues that matter most to Wisconsin families.”
