Holiday Giving Tree program set to start next week

By - Nov 13th, 2024 09:41 am

Alderman Lamont Westmoreland invites residents to participate in the United Way’s Holiday Giving Tree Program beginning next week on Wednesday, November 20. Continuing through December 1st, those who are looking to participate can visit Wellpoint Care Network, 8901 W. Capitol Dr., between 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. on weekdays to select a gift tag and fulfill a wish for someone in need.

Alderman Westmoreland said that after a gift has been purchased, participants should return it to Wellpoint so it can be delivered to recipients who might otherwise go without a holiday gift.

The Alderman said the idea for this specific initiative stems from his experience as a youth – with his parents “taking me and my brother to the giving tree at the Mayfair Mall to buy gifts for the less fortunate.”

“I hope residents will take this opportunity to give back to the community and uplift residents in need,” Alderman Westmoreland said. “I extend a special thank you to my partners, Wellpoint and Bunzel’s Meats. Without their support and contributions, this holiday initiative would not be possible.”
