Gov. Evers, WisDOT Announce Wisconsin to Receive Over $177 Million to Support 76 Projects Statewide Under Biden-Harris Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers, together with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), today that the Biden-Harris Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) will provide more than $177 million in additional funding for 76 different projects within 16 large urban areas across Wisconsin. WisDOT will administer the funding to communities through the Surface Transportation Program (STP).

The governor and WisDOT recently announced $200 million in federal STP funding for more than 150 local road and bridge improvement projects dedicated to improving local bridges, rural roads, and roadways statewide. “The Biden-Harris Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is making once-in-a-generation investments in Wisconsin’s infrastructure statewide, building upon the work we’ve been doing for the past five years to fix the darn roads,” said Gov. Evers. “These essential funds will give more communities across Wisconsin access to the safe, reliable highways they need, create good-paying jobs, and will make a real difference in people’s lives and livelihoods.”

“I fought hard to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to rebuild our outdated infrastructure, spur economic growth, and keep Wisconsinites safe across our state,” said Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin). “I’m thrilled to see it doing just that–investing in communities large and small across our state, connecting businesses to consumers, and moving our economy forward–creating jobs every step of the way.”

Gov. Evers has made fixing Wisconsin’s roads a top priority, and the Evers Administration has improved more than 7,400 miles of roads, including more than 3,700 miles of locally owned roads and 1,780 bridges since 2019. This includes over 900 miles of road and over 200 bridges in 2023 alone. Through this new funding from the BIL, WisDOT will work with local cities to enhance multiple high-traffic roadways statewide.

“Our partnerships and communication with local governments in all corners of the state help ensure the success of these projects through the Surface Transportation Program,” said WisDOT Secretary Craig Thompson. “We remain committed to improving transportation safety, efficiency, and quality for all Wisconsinites.”

WisDOT’s STP allocates federal funds to complete a variety of improvements to federal-aid-eligible roadways in rural and urban areas. The Local Bridge Improvement Assistance Program distributes federal and state funds to help local governments rehabilitate and replace the most seriously deficient existing federal-aid-eligible local structures on Wisconsin’s local highway systems.
