MILWAUKEE, WI— On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at approximately 7:27 p.m. on the 1500 block of West Hopkins Avenue, two Milwaukee Police Department Detectives were riding in an unmarked squad when they observed a suspect grab an individual and point a firearm at the individual’s head. The detectives then stopped and exited the squad and ordered the suspect to get on the ground while identifying themselves as police. The suspect pointed his firearm at the detectives. Both detectives fired towards the suspect. The suspect then fled the area. At that time, MPD did not believe that the suspect was injured. Information about this incident was released by the night watch commander.

On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at approximately 4:15 p.m., MPD officers located and arrested the 28-year-old male suspect on the 2900 block of N. 37th Street. At which time, it was determined that the suspect sustained a non-fatal gunshot injury. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office issued criminal charges against the suspect.

The detectives involved in this incident returned to full duty.

To remain consistent with the Milwaukee Police Department’s Video Release Policy Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) 575, MPD will release video for this incident in accordance to the format of SOP 575 instead of a community briefing.
