By - Jul 22nd, 2024 03:01 pm

Marquette University women’s lacrosse head coach Meredith Black announced Annie Carroll as assistant coach for the program on Monday.

“We are thrilled to welcome Annie to Marquette,” Black said. “She has great experience as a player in the BIG EAST and as a coach. We have no doubt she will be a great mentor to our student-athletes and help us compete for championships.”

Carroll comes to Milwaukee after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at UC Davis. Carroll will work with the defense and goalkeepers.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Marquette lacrosse program and cannot wait to work alongside Meredith and Caitlin,” Carroll said. “Their expertise and long-standing dedication since the beginning of the program have truly been inspiring. Coming back to the Big East Conference as a coach is exciting, and I can’t wait to get started with the team!”

The Yardley, Pennsylvania native got her coaching career started in Philadelphia with NXT Lacrosse Club, planning practices and coaching both field players and goalies. She also created the curriculum and goalie instruction for the entire club and assisted with player tryouts, skill evaluations, and camps.

In addition to NXT, she worked with Foundation Goalie Training, where she co-directed weekly training sessions for youth, middle, and high school goalies.

Carroll played four years in goal at UConn, appearing in 14 games with three starts from 2017-21 for the Huskies. She served as a member of the team leadership council her senior year in 2021 and helped lead UConn to the NCAA tournament.

Carroll played a fifth year at Temple in 2022. She started all 17 games for the Owls while earning AAC All-Conference Second Team honors and went 10-5 with 125 saves.

During the fall of 2021, Carroll interned with the Temple coaching staff to gain office experience involved in running an NCAA Division I program.
