Beware of predatory colleges that promise quick degrees and employment

Milwaukee has had a tenuous history with for-profit colleges such as Everest College, Sanford Brown, and ITT Tech. These businesses worked to lure students into enrolling through slick ads but left them with nothing but huge debts, useless credits, and broken dreams of a middle-class career.

Now another for-profit college, the Arizona College of Nursing, is planning to open in Milwaukee. We understand that this school is on probation for three years in the state of Arizona, and was sued by a group of students in Dallas, Texas.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in nursing, Milwaukee has a number of high quality, reputable nursing schools with strong track records of success including: the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, MATC, Marquette, Alverno, Mount Mary, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. They are high quality nursing programs with transferable credits and good job placement rates.

We would urge residents to not fall for flashy ads and empty promises. Do yourself a favor and investigate the community’s many nursing schools with a proven track record.
