Project Clean and Green set to kick off on Monday, April 15

Alderman Lamont Westmoreland wants to remind residents of the 5th District, and those across the city, that the annual Project Clean and Green initiative will begin on Monday, April 15.  The citywide program is designed to foster neighborhood pride and ownership through coordinated clean up. Collection crews will target one zone each week from April 15-May 24 and collect up to six cubic yards per property of unwanted furniture, mattresses or household items, and garden/yard debris in paper yard waste bags.

Residents should place their unwanted items at their regular garbage collection point – either the curb or alley line – by 7 a.m. of their assigned Project Clean and Green day. For curb pick-up, please ensure that all items are kept out of the street and instead placed along the area between the sidewalk and curb, on the lawn edge if there is no sidewalk, or at the end of the driveway. For alley collection, place items at the alley line. Residents should also note that items such as tires, TVs and other electronics, construction debris and hazardous waste will not be collected. This program is only available for 1-4 dwelling unit residences serviced by the City of Milwaukee.

“Project Clean and Green is a fantastic way to jump start that spring cleaning and utilize a seasonal city resource that seeks to help keep our neighborhoods clean and free of illegal dumping and debris,” said Alderman Westmoreland. “The 5th Aldermanic District will be divided into two cleanup zones, the weeks of April 29-May 3 and May 6-10. I would encourage everyone to visit the Project Clean and Green website to identify their pickup window, review the items that will and will not be picked up, and prepare accordingly.”
