GO Passes Available Starting March 31

New resource increases independence and transit ridership.

By - Mar 27th, 2015 04:28 pm

Starting March 31 older adults and people with disabilities in Milwaukee County can begin using the GO Pass program for their transportation needs, Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marina Dimitrijevic announced today.

“This is an exciting time for our county transit system. The adopted 2015 Milwaukee County budget included several measures to expand transit services and boost ridership, including the creation of the GO Pass program and new routes that reach job centers in Oak Creek and Brown Deer. The GO Pass program is modeled after other successful best practices aimed to improve the independence of older adults and people with disabilities. When we increase public transit ridership, we reduce the use of cars and improve our environment,” said Chairwoman Dimitrijevic.

The Milwaukee County Transit System will process applications for GO Passes at the MCTS Administration Building, 1942 N. 17th Street, Milwaukee, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. The pass will NOT be handed out on Friday, April 3rd. The no-cost pass can be used immediately. Applications can be printed out and downloaded at RideMCTS.com. Starting soon additional outlets will be available for distribution, including senior centers.

“Just this week I was having lunch at one of our senior meal sites when an older man told me how excited he was to use his GO Pass. He said right now, due to his fixed income, he only travels to where he needs to go. With the GO Pass, he said he will be able to enjoy all of the great things Milwaukee County has to offer,” said Chairwoman Dimitrijevic.

If you experience difficulty with the application process, please contact (414) 343-1700. It is the responsibility of the Milwaukee County Transit System and the Milwaukee County Department of Transportation to ensure that applications for the GO Pass are processed in a timely manner.

  1. Paul says:

How much will this cost taxpayers?

  2. Paul says:

PMD, thanks for the article which states the costs could be over $3 million per year. Is this county board trying to bankrupt us?

  3. PMD says:

Oh sorry I thought it said $822,000. My bad.

  4. Kyle says:

It does say $822,000, sort of. That’s the Comptroller’s cost for just the GO Pass portion of the package. MCTS estimates the entire package will cost twice the Comptroller’s total estimate (from $1.5 mil to $3 mil). Perhaps the best number from that story is: “with a high estimate of $2,250,000 just for the free riders”.

  5. PMD says:

Whatever the true cost, Marina is just making sure that the elderly can get to their jobs in Oak Creek and Brown Deer at no cost to them. Serious problem solved.
