Special elections called to fill vacancies in three aldermanic districts

Statement of Common Council President José G. Pérez November 28, 2022

By - Nov 28th, 2022 04:25 pm

Today, pursuant to Section 17.23(1b), Wis. Stats., I have ordered three special elections to be held on April 4, 2023, to fill the vacant aldermanic seats in districts 1, 5, and 9. Should a primary election be necessary to fill any of these seats, those would be held on February 21, 2023.

The circulation of nomination papers can begin, effective today. The deadline for submitting nomination papers to the Election Commission will be no later than 5:00 p.m. on January 3, 2023. A successor for each seat shall be elected for the remainder of the unexpired term that will expire on April 15, 2024.

There has been much turnover on the Common Council during the last year, and I want to thank my colleagues and all of the dedicated staff members who have stepped up to ensure that the residents of these districts without representation continue to have city support when needed.

I look forward to the Common Council becoming whole again in the near future.
