MPD Officer Involved Shooting
MILWAUKEE, WI— Today, Monday, November 14, 2022, at approximately 12:19 a.m., a Milwaukee Police Officer responded to a welfare check at a residence on the 2300 block of N. Booth Street. The caller was concerned for the safety of a resident and requested a squad to respond.
Upon arrival, an officer encountered an individual that allowed the officer in the residence. While in the residence, the officer observed a deceased body, and attempted to detain that individual who allowed the officer entry and was on scene. The suspect resisted and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the suspect armed himself with a pole and a weight. During the struggle, the officer gave the suspect multiple commands to drop the weapon. However, the suspect refused and the officer discharged his firearm, subsequently striking the suspect.
The suspect, a 31-year-old Milwaukee man, was arrested and transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries.
The officer that discharged his firearm is a 24-year-old male with over 4 years of service. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries. He will be placed on administration duty as is routine in officer involved incidents.
The decedent was identified as a 75-year-old Milwaukee woman. The cause of her death is still under investigation; however, at this time, there are no visible signs of trauma. The next of kin notification is still pending.
This is a fluid and ongoing investigation. The Milwaukee Police Criminal Investigation Bureau is leading the investigation. Criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the upcoming days.
