MILWAUKEE (April 13, 2022) – Discourse: a Liquid Workshop – a forward-thinking coffee and drink destination – officially announced its opening at Cafe Calatrava within the Milwaukee Art Museum as part of a five month residency program. Discourse was established in 2017 in Sister Bay, Wisconsin, and recently moved to Milwaukee and opened a stall at the Crossroads Collective food hall in February 2022. The Milwaukee Art Museum operation is Discourse’s second Milwaukee location.

“We’re incredibly honored to be working with such a legendary establishment in the community,” said Ryan Castelaz, founder and creative director. “The Discourse team and I pride ourselves on the craftsmanship behind our drinks, and we’re beyond excited to open up shop alongside an organization that shares our dedication to creativity.”

The Discourse menu will offer a wide array of coffee and tea options, from imaginative takes on coffee shop staples such as caramel and vanilla lattes, to completely novel, culinary-inspired experiences like Crenn, an exploding sphere filled with an assortment of coffees, teas, and juices. In the coming months, the Discourse team will add drink offerings inspired by artworks displayed in the Museum’s galleries. Alongside coffee and tea, the food and beverage team at the Milwaukee Art Museum, led by Executive Chef Jamie Nelson, will provide a full cafe menu of delicious food options, as well as wine, beer, and soft drinks.

“The Milwaukee Art Museum is excited to welcome Discourse: Coffee Workshop into the Museum Café to bring coffee to life in new ways for our visitors,” said Robert Stein, Milwaukee Art Museum Deputy Director and Chief Experience Officer. “Paired with lakefront views and freshly made food, Discourse’s artisanal creations provide the perfect moment to recharge during the workday or after touring the galleries.”

“To be able to tell the stories of the incredible works of art at the Milwaukee Art Museum through drink is the ultimate realization of Discourse’s vision for coffee,” said Castelaz. “We couldn’t be more grateful to Museum Deputy Director Rob Stein, Jamie Nelson, and the entire team at the Milwaukee Art Museum for recognizing the potential in this partnership, and for the incredible amount of work they’ve put into making this residency a reality.”
