(MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, February 17, 2022) – The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center is pleased to announce the appointment of MCSC Program Director Teresa Coronado to the position of Development and Outreach Director.

Coronado has successfully managed programs at the Sailing Center for three years developing new classes and initiatives that engaged new and long-term members and increasing participation in both summer and winter classes. This was particularly impressive due to hitting record numbers during two consecutive years of the Covid-19 Pandemic. “Teresa will be charged with developing strategies to create a long-term development plan to put the Sailing Center on a strong financial footing for generations of future sailors,” said Holly Church, MCSC Director.

Coronado graduated from the White Lake Yacht Club Sailing School in 1989 which began her life-long passion for sailing. She had been an MCSC volunteer and instructor since 2009 and had sailed extensively on Lake Michigan and Lake Superior and in the Virgin Islands and Florida. She competed in the “Race to Alaska” on “Elle”, a Balboa 20 in 2018. Teresa is also a long-time racer with the Milwaukee Bay Women’s Sailing Organization and a committed member of the Midwest Women’s Sailing Conference organization.

“Coronado was instrumental in engaging a number of community partners to establish the successful ‘Milwaukee Beach Ambassador Program’ in 2021 and has been a catalyst with other organizations promoting water safety. We are confident she can build on these relationships with her infectious personality to help the Sailing Center complete its long-range vision for the fleet and facilities,” said Paul Baldino, Board President.

Prior to joining the Sailing Center, Coronado served as an Associate Professor of English at UW-Parkside in Kenosha and holds a BA in English from Hillsdale College, an MA in English from Eastern New Mexico University and a PhD, Early American Literature, University of Oregon. Since joining the Sailing Center she has received certifications in Keel Boat, Powerboat and Centerboard instruction by US Sailing. Her other interests include travel, solo camping throughout the western United States, competing in triathlons and participating in Bike MS: Best Dam Bike Ride.
