City of Milwaukee receives perfect score on Human Rights Campaign’s Municipality Equality Index
The Human Rights Campaign – the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer civil rights organization – recently released its annual Municipality Equality Index (MEI), and for the fourth year in a row the City of Milwaukee received a perfect score of 100 points. The MEI examines how inclusive municipal laws, policies, and services are for LGBTQ+ people who live and work there. Cities are rated based on non-discrimination laws, the municipality as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement and leadership on LGBTQ+ equality.
Milwaukee is one of seven cities in Wisconsin rated by the MEI, and in 2021, only 110 out of a total of 506 cities rated nationally received perfect scores. Additional information on the Human Rights Campaign and the MEI can be found by visiting https://www.hrc.org/resources/municipal-equality-index.
