Senator Agard Applauds AG Kaul’s Safer Wisconsin Legislative Package
MADISON – Today, Attorney General Josh Kaul announced “Safer Wisconsin”, a legislative package aimed at reducing crime and supporting stronger communities. Included in the package are measures to address gun violence, substance abuse and mental health, building trust in communities, and holding offenders accountable.
Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison) released the following statement regarding the announcement:
“The Safer Wisconsin package includes ideas that will positively impact communities all across Wisconsin to ensure that crime is reduced and our Main Streets are strong. It is past time that the legislature take bold and significant steps while Wisconsin is in the unique position by investing $115 million – a portion of the state’s surplus – in public safety.
“I have been an outspoken advocate for many of the provisions included in the Safer Wisconsin package. By implementing these policies, we are protecting our friends and neighbors. This package is a culmination of policies that will strengthen community trust, prevent crime, keep guns out of the hands of people who have been shown to be dangerous, address substance use disorders and mental health crises, as well as holding offenders accountable.”
