MPD Officer Exchanges Gunfire with Suspect of a Shooting

MILWAUKEE, WI – On Thursday, October 7, 2021, at approximately 7:55 p.m., Milwaukee Police Department officers were investigating a property damage complaint on the 2400 block of N. 37th Street. While on scene officers heard multiple shots in the vicinity and responded to the location, which was also on the 2400 block of N. 37th Street.

Upon arrival, an officer encountered an armed suspect. The officer and the suspect exchanged gunfire. The suspect fled from the scene. Officers secured the scene and located four victims at a residence that sustained gunshot injuries. During this incident, no officers were injured. A gun was recovered from the scene.

The victims are an 18-year-old female, 25-year-old female, a 65-year-old male and a 19-year-old male. They were all transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries and are in stable condition. A fifth shooting victim, a 20-year-old male arrived at a local hospital. He sustained serious injuries and is in critical condition.

The officer involved in this incident is a 30-year-old male officer with over 4 years of service. He was placed on administrative duty per department policy.

This is an ongoing investigation. It has not been confirmed if the officer’s gunfire struck anyone. Out of an abundance of caution MPD requested the assistance of the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team to investigate this incident. The Oak Creek Police Department will be the lead law enforcement agency in the investigation.
