raSmith Staff Recognized as Qualified Roundabout Designers

Brad Severson, project manager in the transportation division of the Appleton office, recently earned his certification as a Level 3 Qualified Roundabout Designer from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT). This is the highest level of roundabout certification from WisDOT, authorizing him to design single-, double-, and triple-lane roundabouts, as well as multiple roundabouts in series. Brad has been designing roundabouts with raSmith since 2004.
Jim Blackwood, senior project engineer in the transportation division of the Brookfield office, recently earned his certification as a Level 1 Qualified Roundabout Designer from WisDOT. Jim has both WisDOT and local roadway design experience, including rural and urban highways and interchange design, as well as the design of both single- and multi-lane roundabouts.
Jim has designed several roundabouts during his more than 14 years at raSmith including WIS 164/WIS 167 in Washington County; 51stt Street/Drexel Avenue in the city of Franklin, Milwaukee County; 16th Street and Emmertsen Drive in the village of Mount Pleasant, Racine County; and WIS 20/WIS 75 in Racine County.
raSmith currently has four registered professional engineers certified as WisDOT qualified roundabout designers. Pat Hawley, Doug Senso and Jim Blackwood are Level 1 designers, and Brad Severson is a Level 3 designer.
