MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers today announced the addition of Theresa Lau to the Major League athletic training staff as assistant athletic trainer/physical therapist. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations David Stearns.

Lau replaces Rafael Freitas, who was named head Major League athletic trainer with the Pittsburgh Pirates in December.

A headshot photo of Lau can be found here.

“I am thrilled to join this dynamic team and to be surrounded by experts in the game,” said Lau. “Our players’ health is extremely important, and I intend to make an impact by further building the bridge between injury prevention, rehab and on-field performance.”

Lau joined the organization as Minor League physical therapist in February 2018 and was promoted to rehabilitation coordinator in 2020. She began her career in baseball with the Boston Red Sox in 2017 as a Minor League assistant athletic trainer with their Gulf Coast League affiliate and also provided rehabilitative treatment across the Minor League system in Fort Myers, Fla.

“We are excited to add Theresa to our Major League athletic training staff,” said Stearns. “Theresa’s rapid rise through our organization reflects her well-rounded skill set and her deep commitment to player care.”

Lau is dual credentialed, earning her bachelor’s degree in athletic training and doctorate in physical therapy from Ithaca College. She is a certified orthopedic manual therapist and a certified strength and conditioning specialist.
