Rep. Robyn Vining Responds to Governor Evers’ State of the State Address
MADISON – Last night, Governor Tony Evers delivered the annual State of the State address, outlining priorities for the year. State Representative Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) issued the following statement in response:
“As Governor Evers stated in his State of the State address, we are strongest when we support one another.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare inequities that exist in our state, one of which is access to broadband. Governor Evers has declared 2021 the Year of Broadband Access and is including robust investments in the state’s broadband system as a provision of the 2021-2023 Biennial State Budget.
“The past year has highlighted the brokenness of Wisconsin’s unemployment system – I echo Governor Evers’ call to address the problems with our unemployment system. Legislative Democrats introduced legislation to make crucial changes to this system in July – the legislature needs to revisit these proposals and work with the Department of Workforce Development on improving this system so Wisconsinites can all receive the support they deserve in a timely manner.“I applaud Governor Evers commitment to Fair Maps – a year ago, he announced the creation of the People’s Maps Commission to draw legislative maps by the people and for the people, because the will of the people is the law of the land. We know an overwhelming majority of Wisconsinites, and counties across the state, support nonpartisan redistricting. Legislators cannot draw the maps that insulate them from providing fair representation.
“I look forward to working with Governor Evers and my legislative colleagues on continued actions in response to this unprecedented public health and economic crisis, and to move our state forward together.”
Rep. Vining represents the 14th Assembly District, which includes parts of Brookfield, Wauwatosa, and Milwaukee. For more information, visit Rep. Vining’s website here.
