Council will honor former officer severely wounded in 2009 shooting
News release from the Common Council
During a special presentation at the beginning of tomorrow’s (Tuesday, May 13, 2014) regular meeting of the Common Council, retired police officer Graham Kunisch will be honored for his dedicated service to the Milwaukee Police Department and to the city.
On June 9, 2009, then Officer Kunisch and his partner, Officer Bryan Norberg, were shot in the face at point-blank range by a man they were questioning in the 800 block of S. 2nd St. Mr. Kunisch suffered severe wounds and injuries in the shooting, including brain injury and the loss of his left eye, and Officer Norberg – who continues to serve as an MPD officer — also sustained severe wounds to his mouth and jaw.
Police Chief Edward Flynn is also scheduled to take part in the presentation, which will include an escort for Mr. Kunisch by all members of the Council’s Public Safety Committee.
In another ceremony scheduled for 8:45 a.m. (prior to the start of the meeting) in the Council Chamber, new 15th District Alderman Russell W. Stamper, II will take the oath of office, administered by his father, former Judge Russell Stamper, Sr. Media coverage is invited for tomorrow’s meeting and events, which will take place in the third floor Council Chamber at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St.
