City efforts against reckless driving to include restriping of Grantosa Drive
Statement of Common Council President Cavalier Johnson July 29, 2020
With the recent efforts to address reckless driving in Milwaukee, five streets will be restriped across the city to narrow travel lanes, mark new crosswalks, and add new bike lanes and turn lanes. This is an imperative measure amidst too many hit-and-run incidents last year, and one of the streets being restriped is Grantosa Drive in the 2nd District.
I am pleased to see the stepped-up efforts being made to keep residents safe from reckless driving. Far too many times we have seen the detrimental impacts of reckless driving and I have long shared the concern Milwaukee residents have around this issue. With the full Common Council receiving the final report of the City-County Carjacking and Reckless Driving Task Force (earlier this month), momentum for traffic calming measures as has only been strengthened. The restriping of Grantosa Drive will make it safer for people walking, biking, and driving on the street.
The Grantosa Drive work began late last week and it is estimated that it will be finished by the end of August. During this time, all streets will remain open; however, some lanes will be temporarily closed as pavement markings are being changed.
Please continue to drive safely and report reckless driving when you see it.
