MPS Board Pres. Bonds offers comments on resignation of Supt. Thornton
Statement of School Board President Bondes
Milwaukee Board of School Directors President Michael Bonds offered comments on the resignation of Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Gregory Thornton, which was submitted Wednesday afternoon.
“I’m grateful for Dr. Thornton’s outstanding service to this community,” President Bonds said. “He created a solid foundation on which to build. I want to thank him personally for his work on behalf of this district and wish him best of luck in future endeavors. Dr. Thornton will be missed professionally and personally.”
The superintendent’s resignation is effective June 30, 2014, the last day of the 2013-14 school year.
Bonds said the next step in the process to select a new superintendent will be a previously-scheduled work session tomorrow, Thursday, March 13 at 7 p.m. The meeting was scheduled–prior to the receipt of Dr. Thornton’s resignation–for preliminary discussions regarding the process of searching for a new superintendent of schools.
