Admission to this event is free, with donations appreciated.
MILWAUKEE _ To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo moon landing, the Manfred Olson Planetarium at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is throwing a “lunar” party on Saturday, July 20, between noon and 3 p.m.
Enjoy activities both inside and outside the UW-Milwaukee Physics building, 1900 East Kenwood Boulevard, room #139.
Festivities outside in the courtyard include a live DJ, rocket bounce house, face painting and more. Play lawn games to win prizes, view the sun safely through a telescope, and see a precise replica of an Apollo 11 A7L space suit. Food trucks will also be available, including Purple Door Ice Cream.
Inside the Physics building visitors can see 20-minute planetarium shows at noon, 1 and 2 p.m. Guest speakers will give 30-minute talks at 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 p.m., exploring the past, present and future of space exploration. View some of the first maps of the lunar surface, provided by UWM’s American Geographical Society Library, or visit the moon virtually by donning a VR headset.
Admission to this event is free, with donations appreciated. The UWM Planetarium is a wheelchair-accessible facility located on the UW-Milwaukee campus. For information, including parking and directions, visit uwm.edu/planetarium/.
