Rep. Taylor statement on special session property tax bill
“This bill continues the bad policies of Scott Walker and legislative Republicans that benefit the wealthiest individuals on the backs of hard-working Wisconsin families and children.”
MADISON – Today, the Assembly passed a property tax bill that benefits the wealthy and most privileged, while substantially increasing the current structural deficit from $545 million to $725 million. Following her vote against the October Special Session Senate Bill 1, Rep. Chris Taylor (D-Madison) released this statement:
“Hard-working Wisconsin families deserve better than this. Rather than providing significant tax relief for hard-working Wisconsin families and individuals who need it most, the Republican property tax proposal provides the most benefit to the wealthiest property owners and out of state individuals. It does not change the fact that in time of a budget surplus, Republicans raised property taxes on middle-income families.”
“Assembly Republicans refused to even consider a Democratic alternative proposal that would have provided real property tax relief to low and middle income families, extended health care coverage to 85,000 people and reduced the structural deficit.
“This bill continues the bad policies of Scott Walker and legislative Republicans that benefit the wealthiest individuals on the backs of hard-working Wisconsin families and children.”
