News release from Alderman Bob Donovan

On Friday (March 22) the Public Safety and Health Committee will hold a special meeting devoted to answering questions from Common Council members and community members about ongoing lead in water issues in the City of Milwaukee, according to Committee Chair Alderman Bob Donovan.

The meeting will include representatives from the Health Department, the Milwaukee Water Works, the Department of Public Works and the Department of Administration – Information Technology Management Division. Robert Miranda and other representatives of the advocacy group Freshwater For Life Action Coalition, or FLAC, will also take part in the meeting.

“Lead water issues have been of primary concern for many years in the community, and community organizations and elected officials have been disappointed in the lack of response from city departments in addressing questions and concerns,” Alderman Donovan said.

“We have asked the departments to be prepared to answer key questions – especially those from FLAC – and I am hoping that we will be able to get to the bottom of some of the important issues at Friday’s meeting,” he said.

Friday’s special committee meeting will be televised live on the City Channel (Channel 25 on Spectrum Cable and on AT&T U-Verse Channel 99) in the City of Milwaukee. It can also be viewed via streaming video on the city website at www.city.milwaukee.gov/Channel25.
