Advocacy Community, Legislators Applaud Healthy Women, Healthy Babies Budget Proposal
"We join with our women’s health partners to applaud the Healthy Women, Healthy Babies state budget initiative."
MADISON – Today, women’s health advocates and legislators joined together to voice support for Gov. Evers’ Healthy Women, Healthy Babies state budget initiative. This proposal takes a comprehensive approach to women’s health by not only restoring Planned Parenthood’s eligibility for state-controlled family planning funds, but also aims to support healthy pregnancies and births and eliminate racial disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes.
Statement from Mel Barnes, Legal and Policy Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin:
“We join with our women’s health partners to applaud the Healthy Women, Healthy Babies state budget initiative. We must prioritize removing racial disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes in Wisconsin. The governor’s budget takes a holistic view of what it takes to achieve that by creating an Infant Mortality Prevention program, increasing postpartum coverage for mothers insured by Medicaid and increases grant funding for doulas. This is what a budget that puts women’s health first looks like.”
