Nik Kovac Getting First Test From Riverwest Resident Group

The Riverwest Neighborhood Association is going to test Alderman Nik Kovac early in his term. Dan Knauss reports on the Riverwest Neighborhood Network website that Kovac may be getting asked to help advocate for the Anaba Tea Room being opened at Garden Park as a done deal before the RFP process to select the “highest and best use” begins.
What has Kovac done so far? To his credit he’s already pushing the Riverwest Neighborhood Association to participate in a more open process than they may be looking for. Should be interesting to see what happens going forward, and how true Kovac will stick to his campaign promises.

Well tonight Kovac floated some ideas at a Riverwest town hall meeting on crime that turned to garden park, more new dorms, and much else. A lot of residents supported a regular open RFP and others supported the plan Kovac seems to be leaning toward: issuing an open RFP with a lot of string attached, basically requiring all proposals to match the major design features of the Anaba plan.
Stuff like a large public greenspace area and public restrooms.
