MILWAUKEE – On Wednesday, June 20th the Community & Economic Development Committee unanimously approved the 2018 Community Development Block Grant funding allocation plan. The plan will distribute over 8.1 million to organizations all over the city of Milwaukee to support housing, economic development, public services, and infrastructure.

Recipients of the largest grants include Legacy Redevelopment Corporation and the City of Milwaukee Health Department receiving $1 million each. Funding will support Legacy Redevelopment Corporation’s Revolving Loan Fund which helps small businesses in Milwaukee expand capital and subcontractor needs. The health department will utilize funds to follow up with children with confirmed lead blood lead levels and to increase outreach and education on childhood lead poisoning prevention.

“Year after year the City of Milwaukee contributes to the great work happening around our city by supporting community organizations with funding through the Community Development Block Grant Program.” said Mayor Tom Barrett. “It is my belief that by contributing to the funding base of these organizations, the positive impact they have in their communities will benefit the entire city.”
