Milwaukee – The beer will definitely be ice cold on Wednesday during the Grand Opening of South Shore Terrace, but it will also be free.

Milwaukee County Parks has decided to go ahead with the planned Grand Opening of South Shore Terrace Beer Garden on April 18 at 4:30pm, despite the recent snow. The event will begin at 4:30pm with a keg tapping and free beer (while supplies last), live music from Vern and the Originals, free appetizers from the Kitchen menu and free samples of Cider Rose.

Guy Smith, Interim Director of Milwaukee County Parks, said: “Winter is trying to muscle its way into spring, so we think it’s time to boycott this weather and try to give spring a jump start by opening a beer garden anyway. So yes, it will be chilly by the Lake, but South Shore Terrace does have an indoor area and firepits. We also think Milwaukeeans are up for the challenge of enjoying a frozen beer garden.”

Those who are brave enough to attend will be among the first to experience new menu items available at the beer garden, including the vegetarian Impossible Burger, crab cake sliders and a new weekly flatbread. The popular Friday Fish Fry will also return. New draft beers on tap at the Miller 1855 Bar this year, include Hopsecutioner and Hi5 IPAs from Terrapin Brewing.

Also new this season, South Shore Terrace will now accept credit and debit card payments and new beer garden gift cards will be available to purchase.

As with other Milwaukee County Park operated beer gardens, patrons who bring their own glassware receive refill rates on beer purchases, and profits from the beer garden go back into the parks system.

South Shore Terrace will open from 4-10pm Wed-Fri and 11am-10pm on weekends with the Bay View Beats live music series held most Wednesdays from 5-8pm. The venue is also available for private rentals on Mondays, Tuesdays and before 4pm Wed-Fri.

County Executive Chris Abele, Milwaukee County Supervisor Marina Dimitrijevic and officials from Miller Brewing will help kick off the beer garden season.
