Wendy Sue Johnson Announces Bid for the 68th State Assembly District
Wendy Sue has a long history of public service and community engagement.
ALTOONA – Today, lifelong Eau Claire area resident Wendy Sue Johnson announced her candidacy for the Wisconsin State Assembly. Wendy Sue, a Democrat, is the first candidate to get into the race since Kathy Bernier decided not to seek re-election, leaving the 68th an open seat.
“As a high school social studies teacher, I taught students the importance of informed civic engagement and encouraged them to reach their full potential, one classroom at a time. As a family law attorney, I represent parents and children during the most stressful events in their lives, one case at a time,” said Wendy Sue. “Now I’m ready to have an even greater impact on my community by advocating for us in Madison.”
Wendy Sue has a long history of public service and community engagement. Wendy Sue served six and a half years on the Eau Claire Area School Board, was a teacher at Altoona High School, and coached at Eau Claire North. Wendy Sue was a successful small business owner of Danz Kraze, and now co-owns her law firm Klemish & Johnson, LLC. Wendy Sue is also a plaintiff in the Gill v. Whitford case, currently before the U.S. Supreme Court, challenging Wisconsin’s partisan gerrymandered maps. She plans to bring a logical problem-solving approach to the challenges facing Wisconsin.
“As a parent, former teacher and school board member I know we need to do more to ensure every student receives a quality education and is safe at school,” said Wendy Sue. “I will prioritize affordable healthcare and work to pass nonpartisan redistricting reform so that fair maps ensure voters are choosing their representative instead of representatives choosing their voters.”
Today, and for the next seven months Wendy Sue will be out meeting residents in the 68th Assembly District, which covers parts of Eau Claire, Chippewa, Clark, Jackson, and Trempealeau Counties. Election Day is Tuesday November 6, 2018.
