Gruesome Playground Injuries

March 21, 2018 – (Milwaukee) Due to popular demand, The Constructivists will bring back Gruesome Playground Injuries by Rajiv Joseph for two weekends this spring, April 26th – May 5, 2018. All Actors and Production Team members will return.

Milwaukee Magazine: “We’re digging this new local theatre company.”

The Small Stage: “An excellent first outing for the group.”

Broadway World: “…this is a wonderfully well-written piece of theater, and one that’s a worthy kickoff for Milwaukee’s new Constructivists.”

Gruesome Playground Injuries features Solana Ramírez-García (First Stage, Milwaukee Opera Theatre, Renaissance Theaterworks) as Kayleen, and Rob Schreiner (Company of Strangers, Bad Example Productions) as Doug.

The play is directed by Artistic Director Jaimelyn Gray (Utah Shakespeare Festival, TUTA Theatre Chicago, Bluebird Arts), with Set and Costume Design by Sarah Harris (Southern Methodist University, African American Repertory Theatre, Plano Repertory Theater), Sound Design by Robert Hornbostel (Porchlight Music Theater, Rivendell Theater Ensemble, Black Button Eyes), Lighting Design by Aaron Suggs (Voices Found Repertory), and Technical Direction and Set Construction by Les Zarzecki (TUTA Theatre Chicago, The Constructivists), and Stage Management by Dana Vetter.

In Gruesome Playground Injuries, playwright Rajiv Joseph asks the question: Why do we hurt ourselves to gain someone else’s love? Kayleen and Doug go through 30 years together as their lives intersect at the most bizarre moments, leading the two childhood friends to compare scars and the physical ailments that keep drawing them together. Oddly funny and heartbreaking, the play explores the trials of lost love, pain, and regret that all humans share. Gruesome Playground Injuries will run April 29 – May 5, 2018 at The Underground Collaborative, 161. W. Wisconsin Ave, Lower Level of the Grand Ave (Below TJ Maxx).
Performances are Thursdays – Saturdays at 7:30pm, and a matinee performance Sunday, April 29th at 2pm. Along with the new performances, Artistic Director Jaimelyn Gray will announce the 2018-19 Season of The Constructivists on closing, Saturday, May 5, 2018.
