Randy Bryce Ignores Cathy Myers’ Debate Proposal, Buys $80,000 Worth of TV Ads Instead

Bryce is a 20-year ironworker and three-time candidate who has never won a primary election.

Janesville, WI – Yesterday, Cathy Myers proposed a series of six debates with her Democratic Primary opponent, Randy Bryce. Myers offered to participate in a debate in each county within Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District – Milwaukee, Kenosha, Racine, Rock, Walworth, and Waukesha.

Bryce has ignored her proposal, but did acknowledge that the August 14th Primary is heating up by buying $80,000 worth of TV advertisements for the month of March.

Myers responded, “Voters are asking for a debate, not $80,000 worth of TV ads bought and paid for by out-of-state donors. Local voters deserve a real debate on the issues because they will decide this election.”

Bryce is a 20-year ironworker and three-time candidate who has never won a primary election. He is ignoring Cathy Myers, a 24-year teacher and two-term elected official who currently represents Paul Ryan on the Janesville School Board.

The candidates previously agreed to a debate hosted by Forward Kenosha and Our Wisconsin Revolution in October 2017, but Randy Bryce backed out a week before the scheduled event.

Bryce’s latest move to ignore Cathy Myers comes as her campaign is gaining serious momentum. Her latest video has been viewed well over 1,000,000 times and has raised nearly $300,000 since it was launched last week. Despite thousands of new donors and her growing grassroots movement, Bryce continues to ignore Myers.

Bryce’s campaign has said he plans to debate “whoever is on the ballot,” which will not be determined until the June filing deadline, a year after his June 2017 campaign announcement.

Myers’ responded that Bryce’s timeline is “unacceptable and disrespectful to the voters we seek to represent.”

Randy Bryce has not responded to the proposal since it was presented yesterday morning.

  1. Andrew says:

Sounds like he did respond. But if he refuses to debate after June then this should have been released. It is more concerning that I have not heard of anything about Meyer outside of occasional posts here, while Bryce is getting his message out there and rallying supports even outside of WI. Meyer should focus on that before misleading articles like this come out.

  2. Thomas Spellman says:

Bryce DEBATE Use your brains DO not give Cathy an excuse for others to vote for her.

  3. fairmont1955 says:

Nope, this is total click bate. They had a debate on the books and she was trying to make it look like he was evasive and you bought it. Shameful.

  4. LenaTaylorNeedsToResign says:

Bryce has $80,000 after paying all that bail money over the years?? Who knew!!

  5. PMD says:

Sick burn! It’s going to be tough for Bryce or Myers to defeat Bryan Steil since Steil is so anti-establishment. From a rich, politically connected family. Attorney for big manufacturing companies. A UW regent. Former Paul Ryan staffer. Nothing establishment about that guy.
