MADISON – Governor Scott Walker issued the following statement following the Florida high school shooting yesterday.

My family and I are praying for those in Florida who have been affected by this senseless tragedy especially the faculty, students and their families, and the first responders. To mourn this tragedy, flags in Wisconsin will be lowered to half-staff until Monday, February 19, 2018. Here in Wisconsin we will continue to work with legislators and law enforcement on how to best keep our communities safe. We have already put new funding in the state budget for mental health services in our schools after hearing about concerns from superintendents, principals and teachers at listening sessions across the state. We are also always willing to work with other Governors and the Administration on other ways we can make our state and our country safer.

  1. Rita says:

Actions speak louder than the governor’s words. We need action. The ongoing prayers, hypocrisy and condescension of political leaders who make more and more weapons available without limits are killing us. We can do something. The people and institutions of this country can lower their flags to half-mast and KEEP them there until the legislators and executives pass and sign a sane and safe weapons control law.

  2. Old Man Yells at Cloud says:

Will you be donating the money the NRA has given you over the years to the victims or other charities? I don’t know how sincere you are in your thoughts and prayers since you are complicit in this senseless gun violence.

  3. daniel golden says:

“My thoughts and prayers go out to all the people killed by an evil person doing bad things with an other wise socially desirable AR 15 military assault rifle” “I am also not at all ashamed by my A+ rating from the NRA or the huge campaign donations they have given me”

  4. Terry says:

Career Politician Scott Walker is a liar, schemer and a charlatan.

  5. Terry says:

Republicans love guns and the NRA more than they love their own children. This speaks volumes.

  6. MKE Kid says:

Talk is cheap. Yet, when the NRA (which I USED to be a member of) is making the rounds, Walker and his ilk will be standing in line, waiting to get their already slimy palms greased.
Walker, just keep your piehole shut already. I and many others are tired of hearing your empty promises and lies of the past 7 years. We know damn well who you bend over for.

  7. John Casper says:

    This statement is egregious.

“We have already put new funding in the state budget for mental health services in our schools after hearing about concerns from superintendents, principals and teachers at listening sessions across the state.”

It overlaps with GOP’s opposition to Medicare-for-all, which would provide everyone with access to a physician and mental health resources. If everyone had a physicians, gun dealers could ask them to confirm that their customer can handle the responsibilities of fire arm ownership.

If Mueller proves NRA took money from Russia, it could be a real problem for the GOP.
