Ald. Witkowski to kick off 4th Annual Play Music on the Porch Day at Ronald Reagan High School
This is the first time Play Music on Your Porch Day will take place in the City of Milwaukee and it is happening in the Garden District.
Join Alderman Terry L. Witkowski this Saturday, Aug. 26 at Ronald Reagan High School as he and students begin the celebration of the 4th Annual Play Music on the Porch Day. Colors of the Alphabet, a band made up of Ronald Reagan High School Students, will be playing an acoustic set to kick off the event in front of the school at 11 a.m.
Play Music on Your Porch day was started four years ago in Highland Park, California and has grown to be an international celebration of music with 235 cities celebrating in 27 countries. The event was started to give people the opportunity to play and learn music with others and meet new people in the community. This is the first time Play Music on Your Porch Day will take place in the City of Milwaukee and it is happening in the Garden District, as Ronald Reagan High School took initiative to launch the event locally.
“Music is an integral part of all cultures as each one has its own style and instruments,” said Alderman Witkowski. “Play Music on the Porch Day gives neighbors the opportunity to both connect over their common love for music and celebrate each other’s cultural diversity through music.”
Whether you play the guitar, euphonium, djembe, or sing, you’re encouraged to head on out to your front porch to play acoustic music for the whole neighborhood. Please leave your amplifiers at home, as this is an unplugged event. Walking around on Play Music on the Porch Day will not only allow you to expand your musical knowledge, but also to get to know your neighbors better.
