Pizza Man In Progress

They're tearing up the space to cook up a quite different Pizza Man, as our photos show.

In January 2010 Milwaukeeans watched as Pizza Man burn to the ground.  The fire shuttered the Milwaukee landmark and displaced multiple businesses and residents.  It seemed at the time to mark the end of Pizza Man.

But earlier this year we learned that Pizza Man had found a new home and would soon be re-opening the restaurant at 2597 N. Downer Ave, the former Jake’s Big Dog (and Lixx) location.  The designs for the new restaurant, by Rinka Chung Architecture, were quickly approved by the City of Milwaukee, and it is under construction today.  Below we present a few shots of the restaurant under construction, including the view from what will become a second-floor terrace.

To see renderings of what the building will look like when it’s complete see our story, “Pizza Man Coming to Downer Ave.

I have been a fan of Pizza Man since I discovered you back in the early 90’s. I’ve been a Milwaukeen now 18 yrs this upcoming Dec. 2013. I have so many wonderful memories at Pizza Man over the yrs. Like so many people, I actually cried, at my old job when I saw the tragic fire on TV. Hands down your my favorite restaurant in Milwaukee. Your food is just great. Always had fun with friends and family there. Many of us can’t wait to taste your fabulous pizza, and “oohh” the onion ring loaf, so tasty. I wait with baited breath for your grand opening. I wouldn’t mind either possibly considering working at your restaurant. Please drop me a email, with current updates, when time permits. God bless all of you, and good luck on your long, tedious rebuilding of Pizza Man. But remember your loyal customers are still here for you, and we embrace you and your newly reopening of Pizza Man. Wishing you a smashing success. ( Not that you’ll need it. lol )

    Sincerely yours,
    Taylor Hawley
