County Supervisor Supports New Reform Bill
Milwaukee County Supervisor Deanna Alexander is pleased to announce support for changes made in the drafting process of state legislation aimed at reforming governance in Milwaukee County.
Milwaukee – Milwaukee County Supervisor Deanna Alexander is pleased to announce support for changes made in the drafting process of state legislation aimed at reforming governance in Milwaukee County. The final bill was made public for the first time today.
After seeing preliminary drafts of the bill in January, Alexander conducted surveys, held a town hall meeting, and pursued residents for their opinions. To proactively get lawmakers on the same page, Alexander organized talks between a handful of Supervisors willing to participate, and served as the liaison between the group and legislators contributing to the bill. She then offered suggestions for improving the drafts in ways that would best serve the people of Milwaukee County.
“I wasn’t going to sit on my hands,” said Alexander. “The people I represent wanted to see action.”
“I want to sincerely thank the bills circulators: Rep. Joe Sanfelippo, Rep. Dale Kooyenga, Sen. Lena Taylor, and Sen. Alberta Darling, for their efforts at defining a bi-partisan way to move forward with positive reforms. I am also grateful to County Supervisors Mark Borkowski, Steve Taylor, and Luigi Schmitt for the many hours we spent working with the state legislators in productive review and debate in order to reach this point,” said Alexander.
Alexander is optimistic for the next steps. “I know that everyone deeply involved in crafting this bill is humble enough to welcome practical ideas, so I look forward to hearing public reaction to the proposal, discussion within the committee process at the State level, and equally, fruitful responses from my other colleagues on the County Board,” she said.
