By - Nov 19th, 2012 05:21 pm

Join City of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, and First District Alderman Ashanti Hamilton as they throw the switch to light the City/County Christmas tree in Red Arrow Park on Monday, November 19th at 5: 15 p.m. John McGivern will be the Master of Ceremonies for an evening of holiday music and a visit from Santa Claus.

This event is presented again for 2012 by Johnson Controls.

Pre-activities beginning at 4:30 p.m. include music by the Lincoln Center of the Arts Ambassador Choir, the Salvation Army Brass Ensemble, and carols by the Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s “A Christmas Carol” intern quartet. Special guests include Rudolph and Hermey from First Stage Theater’s production of “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer”.

After the tree is lit, Santa will be available in a heated tent until approximately 6:15 p.m. to meet with children and hear their Christmas wishes. In addition, children will receive a free holiday gift.

Starbucks will provide refreshments.

This year’s Christmas tree is a Colorado Blue Spruce donated by the Love family, and stands 40 feet tall. Department of Public Works staff decorated the tree with about 6,000 lights, more than 600 yards of red ribbon fashioned into large bows, and another 100+ yards of gold ribbon for the bow that sits atop the tree. Mr. Love will be present to help light the tree.

For more information on the tree lighting ceremony, a flyer will be sent under separate cover.
