Ald. Rainey thanks Irgens Development for support of Midnight Basketball League
Statement of Alderman Khalif J. Rainey March 17, 2017
While everybody’s caught up in “March Madness” this week, I myself am feeling some “March Gladness” after receiving some good news about the city’s new Midnight Basketball League.
This morning, we received a $1,000 check from Irgens Development Partners as a donation in support of the Midnight Basketball League. Through the program, which was approved by the Common Council as part of the 2017 city budget, the Milwaukee Public Schools are hosting three 10-week midnight leagues at Bradley Tech High School in an effort to engage with up to 100 young men, connect them with the support they need and keep them out of trouble.
In its first couple weeks, the program has been a great success, and this generous donation from Irgens helps ensure the continuing vitality of this important service. I would like to personally thank the leadership at Irgens for their generous philanthropy. It is because of community partners like Irgens that we are able to build upon the success of this critical initiative.
I would urge anyone else who’s interested in sustaining this worthy cause to contact my office for instructions on how to donate.
