It’s National Voter Registration Day
DMV encourages people to make sure they have an ID to vote
There is no such thing as a separate “Wisconsin Voter ID Card.” Most people already have what they need to vote. Current Wisconsin driver licenses or IDs are valid to vote. During this National Voter Registration Day, Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) encourages people to check and make sure that they have the proper identification needed to vote. The most common forms include a Wisconsin driver license or ID.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission notes other forms of identification valid for voting purposes, such as military or student ID cards. To confirm if a card meets the requirements, visit the Wisconsin Elections Commission website.
Voters looking to get a Wisconsin ID can turn to DMV for help. Start here. To obtain an official ID card, there are documentation requirements such as a birth certificate, but if all documentation is not readily available, the ID Petition Process can be used to obtain a receipt valid for voting while the remaining documents or verifications are obtained. DMV offers this service and card for voting purposes free of charge. Start today.
The DMV’s website has a locator to help you find the nearest DMV and check wait times.
