A local rally in support of law enforcement officers will take place Sunday, August 14, and will feature Governor Scott Walker, Common Council President Ashanti Hamilton, and Aldermen Bob Donovan and Mark Borkowski as invited guests.

The Support the Blue Day rally (see attached schedule) will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Bavarian Bierhaus, 700 W. Lexington Blvd. in Glendale. The family-friendly event will feature remarks from guests and music, and lawn games and a bounce house for children. Food and beverages will be offered for sale.

In addition to Governor Walker, President Hamilton and Aldermen Donovan and Borkowski, other invited guests include state Sen. Alberta Darling, Milwaukee County Supervisor Deanna Alexander, and New Berlin Police Department Chaplain Mary Kay Balchunas.

Alderman Donovan, chair of the Public Safety Committee and the proud father of a Milwaukee Police Department sergeant, said the event will allow citizens the opportunity to show their support for the men and women who “put their lives on the line daily to keep all of us safe.”

“There is a call nationally and especially locally to rally in support of our dedicated law enforcement officers, and Sunday’s event will bring together officers from several different jurisdictions in a display of unity,” Alderman Donovan said. “I urge citizens to come out and show their support for our brave officers.”

The event is sponsored by a Bible study group at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brookfield, and is made possible through its members’ financial contributions and volunteer support. To contact the Support the Blue Day organizers, please call 262-888-0752 or email stbwisc@gmail.com.

  1. Vincent Hanna says:

Looking at the roster of invited speakers, this looks more like a campaign rally than anything else.

  2. Observer says:

Is it just going to honor suburban policemen?
I’m with Vince, this sounds like a gathering of Citizens For Responsible Government.
