Debra Usinger, great-granddaughter of the founder of Usinger’s Famous Sausage, will be named Fred Goldsmith Kiwanian of the Year posthumously at an awards ceremony at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the Milwaukee County War Memorial. Usinger was nominated for her 24–]year commitment to elevating visibility of the Club’s activities, including its youth mentoring program, environmental activities, support of the Ronald McDonald House, and, most recently, the development of the Kiwanis Landing Project, a partnership with the Milwaukee River Revitalization Foundation.

Usinger was also an active participant on the Club’s many committees and served on the Board of Directors from 2004-2011.  Additionally, she led the organization as President from 2009- 2010.

“Debra was a prominent member of our Milwaukee chapter, engaging many of our city’s leaders,” said Beth Nicols, president of Kiwanis Club of Milwaukee. ”Giving her time and talents, she served our community selflessly, while also carrying out the Kiwanis and Usinger legacy begun by her father, Frederick D. Usinger III.”

Usinger passed away in July after battling a rare form of cancer. Kiwanis Club of Milwaukee will present the Fred Goldsmith Kiwanian of the Year Award to her brother, Fritz Usinger.
