Marquette nursing professor appointed to national advisory board

Hughes’ area of research focuses on the organization of healthcare institutions and systems of care.

MILWAUKEE – Dr. Ronda Hughes, associate professor of nursing at Marquette University, was recently appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services to the National Advisory Council on Nursing Education and Practice. Members of the NACNEP are selected for being authority leaders in the various fields of nursing and nurse education.

The NACNEP advises and makes recommendations to the Secretary and Congress on policy matters arising in the administration of a range of issues relating to the nurse workforce, nursing education and nursing practice improvement. Advisory committees are a way of ensuring public and expert involvement and advice in Federal decision-making.

Hughes’ area of research focuses on the organization of healthcare institutions and systems of care, and how it affects the work environment, the quality and safety of patient care, and patient outcomes. Hughes has been involved in other prestigious organizations, such as: Academy of Health, American Academy of Nursing, American Nurses Association, American Public Health Association, The Institute of Medicine and Sigma Theta Tau.
