David Crowley Declares Victory in Wisconsin Gubernatorial Race

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Upon declaring victory in the Wisconsin governor’s race, Governor-Elect David Crowley released the following statement:

“This win belongs to the volunteers who knocked doors in the rain and the cold; the union members who spent their precious free time walking their own neighborhoods; a staff that gave this campaign a year of their lives; and everyone who chipped in five bucks because they believed. Because of you, a boy who grew up facing eviction will soon take residence in the Governor’s Residence.

“Tonight, Wisconsin made history. Being your next Governor is humbling in its own right. I ran to be the Governor for All of Us. And tonight, that includes everyone who didn’t vote for me. I’ll listen to you. I’ll work for you. And I hope to earn your trust the only way I know how: by showing up and getting results.

“Growing up, there were nights I didn’t know if there’d be dinner on the table, days where I didn’t know how I was getting to school. I grew up in one of those families, not knowing if we’d have a roof over our head or if the next doctor’s bill would wipe us out, hoping somebody in charge would give families like ours a fighting chance. So to all those families watching tonight, I see you. I hear you. I was you.

“And now, I’m going to fight for you, every day. It’s my responsibility to offer my vision for where we are headed and to provide the leadership to bring us together to get it done. Lower costs for housing, utilities, and child care; real property tax relief, health care you can both access and afford, with real options, good schools, funded without a referendum every other year, a government that’s open, accountable, and transparent.

“None of these are Democratic or Republican ideas; they are Wisconsin ideas. And for those of us headed to Madison in January, it’s our job to get it done. So let’s show the country how it’s done. In a world that is all too divided, let’s buck the trend in true Wisconsin fashion. Let’s be the state where elections make us better, not bitter. Where we stop asking where an idea came from, and instead ask where it will take us.

“We are not a red state or blue state; we are not defined by rural and urban. We are one people, one Wisconsin, and tonight, we choose to move forward together.”
